Pokemon VGC 2021 Series 8 Mimikyu + Calyrex Ice Rider Team Guide - Metagame Monday

Hello and welcome to the pokemon sword and shield VGC 2021 series 8 metagame monday, where teach players of all skill levels (beginners and tryhard veterans alike), whats the state of one particular meta team. This includes of how to beat it, how to use it or what kind variants of the team there can be. Firstly, if there are multiple varinats of the team, I go over all of them, and then I team building the team. Then I look at each member, and in the pokemon showdown teambuilder, I explain what kind of moveset, set or EV spread is the most optimal for them. And lastly, I go over the matchups of the team and how to play it in google slides presentation guide. and the the end of it, I even go over the easy counters.
Todays episode focuses on Calyrex , Calyrex Ice Rider to be exact. this pokemon has ridiculously high defence stats ( 100 base HP, 150 base defence and 130 base special defence ) , sky high base attack of 165 , but low base speed of only 50, thus the team support will at least consist of trick room setter. calyrex ice rider has unique abillity as one , which gives it both unnerve to stop shuca berry / sitrus berry / pinch berry activating on pokemon like incineroar, and chilling neigh, which means after each knock out its going to get an attack boost, further increasing chance of it to sweep the VGC team. sweeping in doubles? well yea, calyrex got one of the best moves in the game, glacial lance, which hits both of the opposing pokemon for 130 BP ice attack. glacial lance can be used as single target attack as well with dynamax. high horsepower max quake boost its weaker (lol) special defence to astronomical levels and max knuckle from close combat allows for even easier sweep. it also can setup trick room on its own, because why not said game freak. Mimikyu is going to be the main trick room setter homever, as its ghost typing and disguise abillity allows it to be both immune to fake out and be able to take astral barrage / max phantasm from calyrex shadow rider for free. it also absorb other ridiculous hits like kyogre water spout, groudon precipice blade and +2 xerneas max starfall, disguise block everything... expect for solgaleos sunsteel strike, and solgaleo is semi popular in this meta and causes trouble for calyrex ice rider as well. you got will-o-wisp on mimikyu to try to solve this problem, as well as try to solve zacians behemoth blades. safeguard on mimikyu as last move is to block amoonguss spore, which might otherwise be a problem. rest of the team consists of intimidate incineroar , misty terrain tapu fini, amoonguss fro my own spore and rage powder and torkoal with its drought sun eruption to beat steel types even more consistently. enjoy today episode :D
