Not a professional how-to on replacing this trap. I wish it could be. The video attempts to show what's involved. Inlet on drumtrap was never properly soldered from day one. It appears they tried to solder it while up in position under the tub--very difficult with the heat needed and access etc...in 1965. Water was seeping out of the inlet pipe--see green corrosion. Both drumtraps here have 3 parts: The body is halved to allow proper pipe alignment and then there is the removable plug. These can be installed either side up. I marked the copper piping to provide a proper mating length for the flexible connectors.
To all who say illegal or use a P-Trap: Easy to say. The drumtrap exit is at the top of the unit. When the house was built, the sewer line running from the trap is high near to the tub drain opening. Unless you substantially change the plumbing to allow a P-Trap, a P-Trap will not fit.
