You need to turn into Metal Mario for a number of stars in SM64, but it’s easy to miss out on where to find it. There are a couple of hints with the rippling metal water effect being the most prominent and the mission name giving you a hint, but it’s still easy to miss it. The switch to activate the Metal Cap doesn’t appear until you’re a good way into the game and it’s also very different to the Wing Cap location. You can follow along with the tutorial to see exactly what you need to do to activate and unlock the green blocks for good.
