Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we'll be taking a look at our Malone Seawing Kayak Carrier right here on our 2020 Ford Edge. You have your Ford Edge and you're ready for adventure. So you wanna take a trip out to the lake, or you wanna go out to the water and bring your boats, or your kayak with you. What do you do with that First, you need a roof rack and then you need a kayak carrier.

So this is the Malone Seawing Kayak Carrier. It's a wing-style, saddle-style kayak carrier that provides superior support for your kayak compared to the J-style, which focus is for compactness. So we'll take a look at this kayak carrier and just see different specs and measurements and just how it works on the Ford Edge. So this is a saddle-style kayak carrier with what we call wings or what I call a U-shaped saddle. So notice where it holds onto our kayak.

This is great, if we have, let's say you're heavier or bulkier boats that you really want supported. Now, if you want to have more crossbar space, I do have just move that to the side just to make it easier to show you how it works, but notice how much crossbar space we still have on the other side of our Ford Edge. Something definitely worth considering too is if you want even more space, you might want to look at a J-style instead. So this kayak carrier includes your tie downs, as well as your bow and stern ropes. So notice the way I use my straps here.

Now this could change depending on the size of your kayak or what you feel is more comfortable for you on your vehicle. But we have these two little holes here. One is gonna be for your Telos Load Assist. So that's why I have it threaded through the holes and then up and over the kayak, and then down to the crossbars on the other side. Just make sure that everything is tightened down and you use your bow and stern ropes too.

The way this works is that you have one in the front, one in the back, and then this goes through the anchor point of your kayak and then into your hood and then your hatch of your Ford Edge. So definitely please have that tied down, along with your kayak before you hit the road. So what we have here is just the Malone Seawing Kayak Carrier. There's also a version of this that has the Stinger Load Assist, which has an assist arm that goes out. Now, look at how our Ford Edge has its crossbars. Since this is a naked roof, that's where your crosses are gonna be. You can't move it. And there's just so much space between our crossbar and the end of our hatch. So for that reason, I recommend if you are using the Seawing, you might wanna consider just using the side loading or loading it up by the side. You may wanna stool to give yourself some extra height or use a Telos Load Assist, just because there's a lot of space to go, if you're gonna rear load it. Let's take a closer look at the straps we have here. So we have these bright red straps, they're your normal water sports straps with the middle cam buckle. They also have a little salt protector. That's gonna be between your kayak and your metal cam buckle. I personally recommend upgrading to our etrailer strap kit, just because it's a little bit easier to use, and it has a better protective. Another thing I recommend adding on to your kayak carrier system, if you do get this, is the Moki Door Step. That's what I'm standing on right now. Notice how much height I now have, how much traction, makes it so much easier to tighten down my straps as well as take them off. So speaking of that, let's take off these straps so that we can take a closer look at the kayak carrier itself. With the kayak off, we can now see how our saddle is shaped. So this is called a U-style saddle, just to help protect or support your kayak and notice how we have our different materials here. So we have poly carbon and we have nylon as our material, just so that you maintain the corrosion resistance. When you have your kayak on there, whether you have your saltwater or your fresh water, you want durable material holding it. We also have these openings at the end and these are gonna be for your straps as well as if you wanna use the Telos Load Assist arm, that clips right in there and helps you get your kayak up. I highly recommend checking out that video review. I made it, and I really explained whether it fits you or not. So check that out. Now, if you don't have your kayaks lo
