Agitato (G-Minor) Not very much is known about Kazimierz Lalewicz (1878-1947) besides a few basic biographical details. He died in Kraków, his coat of arms was Woroniec, His father was Stanisław Lalewicz who was a doctor and the grandfather of the much better-known pianist Jerzy Lalewicz (1875-1951). Jerzy played alongside Melcer-Szczawiński and Ignacy Friedman, taught at Żeleński's conservatory in Kraków before moving to Argentina, and like his cousin, composed. From what we know of Kazimierz, he was a lawyer by trade but actively composed from 1910-1925 ca, spending most of his later life in Kraków. Jerzy was educated by Anatoly Lyadov and Rimsky-Korsakov. Given his contemporaneity with Kazimierz and the style of the music we hear, it is not too far-fetched to imagine that Kazimierz received the same sort of education as did his cousin. Kazimierz's music is more evocative of the afterglow of rich, romantic Russian pianism than that of Chopin and Moniuszko that we see in Żeleński or in the Straussian radicality of the, by then quite active, Young Poland.
