Price! Like $20 cheaper.
New, but came without out a box?! How did I miss that originally?  My shipment arrived naked (without box) in an envelope, and I thought hrrrrm.
Functionality.  Didn't synch properly and would randomly rewind movies.
Workmanship/Finish.  Cheap knockoff.

Also the glare covered up the fact that the fake white controller had the same MODEL # as the authentic Black controller.  Also please let me know if you find any discrepancies.

I called Sony US  based technical support 3 days ago and the representative was unable to offer much help or concern because Ebay is not an authorized vendor.  The representative told me to use the customer support link on their webpage which I did.  Someone there contacted me the next day to inform me they couldn't do anything about it since it's an item from Japan (non-interest again) and referred me to the Sony Japanese customer support site.  I sent them the same information as well and am awaiting a response.  Additionally I contacted the consumerist via their tips link on or about the 24th and am awaiting their response.

The first negative feedback (toolhaus.org) concerning fake controllers from this vendor was on May-12-09  at 08:41 am.  Yet through all of ebay/paypal's investigative prowess of counterfeits they have STILL been unable to determine if this vendor traffics in fake goods.  In effect it would appear that they ENABLE the process of counterfeit trafficking through their refund policy.

Once a complaint is made that the item is not as described an automated system begins where the seller contacts you and requests that you ship the item back.  You have no other option but to do so to receive a refund.  Once this process is engaged ALL fraud investigation stops because quote "Paypal would rather not get involved" between claims of fakes between the merchant and vendor( A paypal supervisor told me that). Since a dispute was opened Ebay opts to not investigate claims of counterfeit goods unless you click a somewhat hidden report button although you have ALREADY stated in the dispute process started on ebay that the good was a fake via their drop down menu options.  Ebay will never investigate the claim because it is 'now in paypal's hands'(paraphrased).

This intricate loop allows powersellers much leeway in regards to trafficking fakes.  The key is that paypal because they operate online "cannot investigate these claims physically",  therefore paypal protection is really paypal refund service in which the complainant MUST pay to ship back counterfeit goods to the seller which is then just resold. Protection implies that purchases made are free from fraud when this is not the case.

Paypals claims of investigation is an illusion because they don't have anyone to investigate.  IE the supervisor told me that they can't buy a controller, for instance, from this vendor and verify themselves that the controller is fake or not because they "do not have a third party verification system set up with Sony".  Although they will "pass on my recommendations for improvement".

To be specific it has been stated to me that it is Paypal's policy not to investigate claims of counterfeit goods when the "merchant indicates that they want the product back" as a refund through the automated process mentioned above.

This came about because I asked to what extent did they investigate my claim.  When I mentioned this video, every representative replied that they do not have access to youtube, nor can they make an account to contact the other commenters about their transactions with this vendor, they also cannot comment on the 'investigation' which they already admitted to never performing.  They also had no answer to my query about what they use for evidence in their investigation if they can't access video or the internet.

I also asked what happens if I buy another controller from this guy and it turns out fake.  The supervisor told me that basically the same thing would happen where I get stuck in this loop of sending the item back to the vendor and await a refund (which I have yet to receive) and an investigation never takes place, again because "Paypal would rather not be involved".  Therefore it is easy to see how apowerseller can sell knockoff goods with impunity and virtual COLLUSION with both ebay and paypal part of the counterfeit trafficking process (by definition).
