Three classic screen beauties in a classic love story, Li Han-hsiang's adaptation of Qing Dynasty novel The Dream Of The Red Chamber will take viewers to the heightened pleasures of love and the despairing depths of betrayal. Timeless beauty Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia appears in her first ever gender-bending role here as Chia Pao-yu, a shallow and callow youth who fritters his time away. All that changes when his cousin Lin Tai-yu (Sylvia Chang) comes to live with his family. He spends his time pursuing his cousin and both quickly fall in love. Their idyll is disturbed when another cousin, Pao-chai (Michelle Mei Suet), comes to stay. The family starts plotting for a wedding between Pao-yu and Pao-chai. When Tai-yu learns of this, she dies of a broken heart. Crushed by her death, Pao-yu becomes a monk.
