In this video BMW M How-To shows you that, when the ambient conditions are dry, launch control permits optimised acceleration on a road surface that offers plenty of grip.

BMW M3 Sedan:
Fuel comsumption (combined) in l/100 km: 10,1-10,0 (WLTP)
CO2 emissions (combined) in g/km: 230-228 (WLTP)

n order to use launch control in your BMW M3 or BMW M4 with a manual transmission, the vehicle must be stationary, the engine running and at operating temperature. The steering angle at the steering wheel must not be greater than 30°. Activate the M Dynamic Mode by pressing the DSC button once. Press the clutch with the left foot and hold. Engage first gear. Press the accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point, and hold. An optimum engine speed for pulling away is adjusted. A check control message “Preparing Launch Control” is issued. When it says “Launch Control active”, take your left foot off the clutch pedal within 6 seconds to start. During the upshift, despite the release of the accelerator pedal during the gear change, the optimal charging pressure is maintained so that the full engine torque is available again immediately.
