महायान विद्या की अधिष्ठात्री देवी का नाम #मंजुश्री है । #Manjusri_Mantra
मंजुश्री #महायान बौद्ध धर्म में सर्वोच्च बुद्धिमता के प्रतीक #बोधिसत्व का मानवीकरण। संस्कृत में इनके नाम का अर्थ है- 'सौम्य' या 'मधुर महिमा'। वह मंजुघोष और वागीश्वर के रूप में भी जाने जाते हैं। चीन में वह 'वेन-शु-शिह-ली', जापान में 'मोंजु' और तिब्बत में 'जाम-द्पाल' कहलाते हैं।
#मंजुश्री के सम्मान में 250 ई. तक सूत्र रचे जा चुके थे, लेकिन ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि बौद्ध कला में 400 ई. तक उनका चित्रण नहीं हुआ। उन्हें आमतौर पर #राजकुमारों जैसे #आभूषण पहने, #अज्ञान के #बादलों को #चीरने के लिए दाएं हाथ में #बुद्धिमता की #तलवार उठाए और बाएं हाथ में #प्रज्ञापारमिता की #ताड़पत्र की #पांडुलिपि लिए दिखाया गया है।
कहीं-कहीं #मंजुश्री को शेर या #नील #कमल पर बैठे भी दर्शाया गया है। #चित्रों में उनकी #त्वचा सामान्यत: #रंग की है।
उनका #संप्रदाय #चीन में आठवीं सदी में व्यापक रूप से फैला और शांसी प्रांत में उनको #समर्पित 'वू-ताइ #पर्वत' उनके #मंदिरों से भरा हुआ है।

#Manjushri is a #Bodhisattva associated with #Vairochana (#Tibetan: #nangpar #nangdze,) the #Buddha_Resplendent, who is like the sun in #glory at its #zenith [highest position.] He is the patron bodhisattva of the #Kadampa (ie. Gelugpa) #denomination, famous for its students of the written word -- scholars or #geshes.
The #Sanskrit #name #Manjushri is variously interpreted to mean "wonderfully auspicious," or "#sweetly_glorious." However, in Tibetan his name #Jampel_yang (contracted to #Jamyang) means "gentle_friend." In #Chinese, he is called #Wen #Shu #Shi #Li; in #Japanese, #Monju.
Manjushri is viewed both as a historical bodhisattva, and as an emanation of Vairochana, ("Berotsana," Tibetan: nangpar nangdze, Jap.: Dainichi Nyorai) the primordial white Buddha who is compared to the sun -- his nature is "everywhere-pervading." He manifests as a bodhisattva to provoke #investigation into such topics as #Emptiness (or, void-ness,) free will, and the nature of the self.
In the sutras, Mañjushrî is described as #inhabiting a #Pure_Land (or, "heaven") in another universe, where he dwells as the Buddha he actually is. Since the 7th century, he has been inextricably linked to the 5 Sacred Peaks (Wu-tai Shan -- "Five-mountain Paradise," Tib: Riwo #Tsenga) of China. There, as Wen-Shu Shi-Li, Manjushri is depicted as a boy with his hair in 5 bunches ("5 peaks") The #northeastern_Chinese location is still an important place of #pilgrimage for Tibetans, #Mongolians, Chinese and other #Buddhists

The legend of Manjushri's #connection with #Swayambhu_Stupa in the #Kathmandu_Valley has at least 3 versions:
"At the time of the Buddha #Visvabhu (the third of the six Buddhas preceding Sakyamuni) Arya Manjusri's emanation #Vajracarya_Manjudeva, who was endowed with the five extraordinary powers, came to Nepal from the #Five_Peaked_Mountain in #China together with #Varada (mChog-sbyin-ma), an emanation of Kesini (sKra-can-ma), and Moksada (gZugs-thar-sbyin-ma), an #emanation of #Upakeshini (Nye-ba'i Skra-can-ma), in order to see the Swayambhu #Dharmadhatu_Stupa. Then through the Great Master's magical power the lotus, which was the sacred base of the attainment of the #Swayambhu_Stupa, was transformed into the stupa
At the time of the #Buddha_Kanakamuni (gSer-thub, the fifth of the seven) the great scholar #Dharma #Sri_Mitra (Chos-dpal bshes-gnyen), lacking #knowledge of the #Twelve_Syllables (?) and on his way from #Vikramasila to #Manjusri's Five Peaked Mountain for knowledge, found #Manjushri himself in the form of #Vajracarya_Manjudeva and received #initiation into the Mandala of #Dharmadhatu #Vagisvari as the #Swayambhu_Stupa itself.
#Manjushri's_sword of #discriminating #wisdom is #tipped with flames to #show that it severs all notions of duality. It can cut away #delusion, #aversion and #longing, to #reveal #understanding, #equanimity and #compassion
