California Chrome - Slipping Saddle

In 2014 California Chrome nearly won the Triple Crown. In the Belmont Stakes, he lost the race because Matterhorn (the horse next to him) stepped on his foot at the starting gate, lacerating Chrome’s  bulb on his left foot. Nevertheless California Chrome finished the race while enduring the stinging pain. He finished in fourth place. This was a test of his true grit and his resilience as a dedicated athlete. In 2016, he vindicated his loss at Belmont Stakes when he won the Dubai World Cup becoming the richest racehorse in American history (at the time). However, Chrome once again faced a potentially devastating situation when his saddle started slipping during the race. Victor Espinoza could have fallen under and got crushed under the hooves of 11 horses. This sort of thing usually causes horses to start bucking but California Chrome endured the discomfort. Rather, he instead launched into high speed overdrive to get to the finish line. In the process he broke the track record winning the race and becoming the richest racehorse of all time (in 2016). A true hero, he was a rags to richest hose who never gave up and to this day he remains an inspiration to those who have the heart to go for their dreams.
