Making Translucent Melt and Pour Soap from Scratch

By adding color to translucent soap in varying amounts, you can produce some very beautiful soap. This soap is quite soft before curing. These techniques should work for any clear or translucent soap.

Recipe from video:

14 oz Organic Coconut oil (76 deg F)
24 oz Castor Oil
6.5 oz NaOH + 17.5 oz filtered water---Lye water
8 oz Stearic Acid
9 oz Sugar dissolved in 6 oz Water (heat water on stove-melt sugar)
9.1 oz Glycerin
16.2 oz 190 proof grain alcohol

1. Add the coconut oil and castor oil to crock pot-melt on high
2. Add Lye water and mix until thick
3. Gradually add Stearic acid while whisking/mixing mixture
4. Add alcohol while mixing-mix well until homogeneous
5. Cover and cook for 1 hour
6. Take off lid and stir-test pH- if pH is 10 soap is ready
7. If pH is over 10-cook another 1/2 hour and test again, etc.
8. When the pH is 10 or less, add the sugar water and glycerin
9. Mix well then pour into molds.
