House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn (on PC using J-Config) Story Mode - 30 mins of gameplay

House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn has been working in Teknoparrot as a Patreon only game for a few weeks now. It's now also working using J-Config too, which means it's no longer stuck behind a subscription paywall, whoop whoop!

This is literally my first time playing the game (aside from quickly powering it up yesterday just to check it actually worked - there was an issue with the mouse calibration being off with regards to the crosshairs, but overnight it was fixed, so awesome). I've never even seen one of these in the arcade, so as I said, literally my first ever time playing it.

I was initially just going to do some video capture of the first stage, then I thought I'd keep going a bit longer, but in the end I was limited to 30 mins of gameplay, because for some reason I suddenly reached a point where the game wouldn't register that I was trying to insert more coins (which up until that point hadn't been an issue), so, hmmm, yeah, weird, I don't really know what that was about. I've got it set to 'freeplay' now, so hopefully that won't be an issue with future playthroughs.

First impressions are good, although it's kinda lame that the zombies seem to spontaneously combust when you shoot them in this, compared to the way they used to splatter into chunks of gore in the old games. Good to see the tradition of abysmal voice acting in the HOTD series is being upheld!

Aside form a bit of slowdown when things get particularly busy, my 10+ year old PC seems to be doing a pretty job of running this and with video capture running too!
