Air Tahiti Nui has set the record for the world's new longest commercial flight - Nonstop Papeete to Paris covering 9,765 miles in 16 hours and 30 minutes. This flight was operated one time only using Air Tahiti Nui's Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This video covers the details of this new world's longest flight.

Tahitian Dreamliner operating World's Longest Domestic Flight
Air Tahiti has officially flown the world’s longest commercial flight to date: Nonstop Papeete, Tahiti, to Paris, France.
This flight is very special as it will only operate once. Normally, Air Tahiti Nui’s flight from Papeete to Paris makes a stop in Los Angeles to refuel, but this one flight operated nonstop.
Because of the United States imposing travel restrictions on Europe due to the coronavirus, Air Tahiti Nui decided to cancel the Los Angeles to Paris sector of the flight.
On March 15, 2020, at 3:00 A.M. local time, Air Tahiti Nui flight 64 operated by its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner took off for Paris Charles de Gaulle.
This distance surpasses the previous world’s longest commercial flight, Singapore Airlines flight 21/22 from Singapore to Newark which has a great circle distance of 9,534 miles or 15,343 kilometers.
Though, Singapore Airlines will continue to hold the title for the world’s longest regularly scheduled flight.
Of course, in the future Qantas expects to hold the title of the world’s longest flights as it plans to launch nonstop Sydney to New York and London which are around 200 and 800 miles longer respectively than Papeete to Paris.
In late 2019, Qantas operated test flights between Sydney and New York/London, however, they were not open to the general public while Air Tahiti Nui’s nonstop Papeete to Paris flight was open to the public.
Qantas holds the record for the world's longest flight (non-commercial) which was delivery flight and a research flight. The brand new Boeing 787-9, VH-ZNJ painted in Qantas special Centenary livery operated this history making flight in just 19 hours and 19 minutes from London to Sydney non-stop covering over 17,000km! (10,500 miles)
Qantas has named its endeavor “Project Sunrise” after the airline’s historic ‘Double Sunrise’ endurance flights during the Second World War, which remained airborne long enough to see two sunrises. This flight is a prove of overcoming the final frontier of aviation, linking non-stop flights from East Coast of Australia to London and New York.
Air Tahiti Nui operated this flight with a 787-9 which does not have the range to operate a regular flight from Papeete to Paris, meaning this flight was likely weight restricted. Currently, it’s unconfirmed how many passengers were actually onboard.
However, on the Paris to Papeete return flight, Air Tahiti Nui will now stop in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, replacing the Los Angeles stopover.
Not only is Papeete to Paris the world’s longest flight, it’s also the world’s longest domestic flight.
