Nonverbal Speech Therapy

It you exercise your body so you can perform certain activities, why can't you exercise the parts you need to form speech also? It makes sense right? I think it's controversial because the field hasn't caught up to the science yet. Not everyone learns the same and has the same abilities so it would make sense if you had multiple approaches to solve the same problem.
