Not yet well publicized in the general or medical communities, many chronic symptoms such as sinusitis, dizziness (or vertigo), ear pain, jaw pain, nasal blockage/stuffiness, facial pain/pressure, eye pain/pressure, tinnitus, abnormal or bad taste or smell, runny nose and many others  may be migraine-related and therefore may be alleviated with the same treatment options as migraine headaches. Unfortunately, many patients and doctors alike are unaware of this connection.

Because a relation to migraine disease is not usually suspected, these symptoms are often not treated properly. Many people receive antibiotics, allergy and other medications and occasionally surgery. These medicines may seem to be effective temporarily because the symptoms naturally disappear (as traditional migraines do) but then return again.

Migraine disease is a condition that most commonly affects women. It may be affected by changes in estrogen levels.

A new organization, the Association of Migraine Disorders has been created to get the word out and to help fund research in this important migraine-related area of neuroscience.

Please visit our website to learn about the symptoms, causes and treatments of migraine disorders. There is a lot of helpful information on our site, and with it we hope to end the suffering of many patients who have been unaware of the possible connection of their symptoms to migraine disease.  Migraines - More than a headache...

**The mission of the Associaiton of Migraine Disorders is to raise the medical and general public's awareness of this condition and to stimulate increased research in this area of neuroscience.**

MORE INORMATION:
Migraine Disorders are a spectrum of neurologic conditions which may have a common genetic and physiologic cause.  Although most people associate a "migraine" with a headache, the same underlying faulty nerves that cause this head pain can also affect those nerves that line our sinuses, teeth and ears.

This hypersensitivity of the nervous system can interrupt the normal way that we see the world, maintain our balance, hear, smell and taste.  This problem may be affecting other parts of the brain that control our body temperature and our mood, our ability to sleep, to think and to remember.  It may be the same neuropathy that causes fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, cyclic vomiting.

Think of this problem as a malfunctioning electrical relay switch.  The information from sensory nerves is being distorted, or overly amplified, on its way to the brain.  That neural error may be an inherited defect which comes and goes throughout life depending on changing factors, such as hormonal shifts.

List of potential symptoms:  migraine, atypical migraine, neuropathiy, dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, ataxia, abnormal smell, phantom smell, phantosmia, bad taste, abnormal taste, dysgeusia, sinusitis, sinus infections, sinus pain, nasal blockage, nasal stuffiness, nasal congestion, runny nose, rhinorrhea, facial pain, cheek pain, eye pressure, eye pain, facial pressure, difficulty driving, spinning, mal de debarquement, aphasia, allodynia, light sensitivity, auditory processing disorder, depression, sensitivity to touch and more...These are just some of the ones in the head and neck...  Find more listed on our website:  www.MigraineDisorders.org
