In this video, I go through how to mix guitar in Audacity. Audacity is a free and lightweight DAW that's useful for recording demos, voice-overs and audio for video. And that's exactly what we're dealing with here.
I've been sent a guitar and vocal track from ARK Guitar (@arkguitar) that needs a little work. Alan recorded this in a less-than-ideal recording space, so the low end isn't sounding quite right, and the levels could do with some balancing.
As he recorded the track using Audacity, I thought I'd try to mix the thing with Audacity too. I go over 4 techniques that you can use to enhance the sound of your recorded guitars in Audacity. Stick around until the end for the before and after. It really makes a difference!
The tips found in this tutorial will still be helpful, even if you're using a different DAW - especially if you're a beginner. Personally, I use Pro Tools, but I find myself using Audacity from time to time just to get a quick recording down, just because it's so quick!
Ultimately, you should be aiming to get the best quality recording possible to begin with. But sometimes, that isn't possible. And even if you have captured a high-quality recording, it may benefit from a little polish.
