In KidLit A to Z, I'm giving parents, educators, and anyone who reads with kids practical tips, advice, and insights to get the most out of your experience with children's books. And if you simply love KidLit, I'm happy you're here, too!

"A" is for awards. You might be familiar with some major ones like the Caldecott and Newbery medals, but across the world you can find all sorts of awards recognizing writers, illustrators, and publishers of children's books, and putting a spotlight on stories that reflect the wide array of cultures, languages, abilities, and identities that exist across the world. Just remember - book awards and prizes do not define what is and isn't "good" children's literature. If your kid doesn't love a book that has won major awards, that's totally okay! Awards are subjective, after all, and usually selected by a small group of adults. At the end of the day, children's books are for children, and what matters most is that they love what they are reading!
