Today in this video we are going to study the Lewis structure of CO2 molecule. CO2 is a chemical formula for Carbon Dioxide and it occurs in the Earth’s atmosphere as trace gas. The molecule is made up of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms. Carbon Dioxide has many applications in the food industry, oil industry and chemical industry. This video will help you understand the Lewis dot structure of the molecule with a detailed explanation.
To determine the Lewis structure of any molecule, we first need to determine the total number of valence electrons in CO2. Here we are first going to look at the total number of valence electrons in CO2, along with its arrangement and the bonds formed in this molecule. This structure further helps us know if the bonds formed in the structure are polar or not.
