The Porsche Car Museum founded
The Porsche Car Museum founded by Helmut Pfeifhofer has found a home in the manufacturing plant of the first Porsche in Gmünd in Austria.
Due to the threatening bomb raids, Ferdinand Porsche moved his headquarters from 1944 to 1950 to Gmünd. His son Ferry Porsche built the 356 Coupé and the Porsche 356 No. 1 Roadsterthe first vehicle with the name of the founder in this plant.
Rallying, racing and military variants and the successor and a wooden model of the Spyder 550, the car with which the actor James Dean had its fatal accident are shown. Mr. Pfeifhofer founded the museum as a purely private initiative. It attracts about 60,000 visitors per year.

Das Porsche-Automuseum wurde von Helmut Pfeifhofer gegründet und hat in Gmünd –Österreich - in den Produktionsstätten des ersten Porsche eine Heimat gefunden.
Ferdinand Porsche verlegte 1944 wegen der drohenden Bombenangriffe seinen Firmensitz bis 1950 hierher. Sein Sohn Ferry baute hier den Porsche 356 Coupé und den Porsche 356 Nr. 1 Roadster, das erste Fahrzeug mit dem Namen des Firmengründers.
Außer Rallye-, Renn- und Militärvarianten ist auch ein Nachfolgemodell und ein Holzmodell des Spyder 550 zu sehen, mit dem der Filmschauspieler James Dean verunglückte. Herr Pfeifhofer gründete das Museum als rein private Initiative. Es ist Anziehungspunkt für ca. 60000 Besucher pro Jahr.
