“The High Line in New York was formerly a freight rail line. But here, it is an express way for cars. But there is another big difference. The High Line in New York is located slightly outside of the city centre. This KK expressway goes right through the heart of the capital city. We therefore want to make the most of this geographical location when developing the walkway.”

Tokyo residents have been getting a glimpse of the high life this weekend, as thousands enjoyed an elevated and traffic-free stroll on a city expressway.

It's a sneak peak of plans to permanently transform the linear space into Japan's answer to the New York High Line.

STORYLINE:

Spirits are sky high as plans to convert an expressway in central Tokyo into a 'sky corridor' inch forward with visitors offered a chance to experience the space on foot.


Thousands enjoyed a traffic-free stroll above some of the capital’s most famous streets in the three-day Ginza Sky Walk event.
