Electric Potential Electric potential is a location-dependent quantity that expresses the amount of potential energy per unit of charge at a specified location. When a Coulomb of charge (or any given amount of charge) possesses a relatively large quantity of potential energy at a given location, then that location is said to be a location of high electric potential. And similarly, if a Coulomb of charge (or any given amount of charge) possesses a relatively small quantity of potential energy at a given location, then that location is said to be a location of low electric potential. Electric Potential & Potential Difference Definition: The electrical potential is defined as the capability of the charged body to do work. When the body is charged, either electric electrons are supplied to it, or they are removed from it. In both cases, the work is done. This work is stored in the body in the form of electric potential. Thus, the body can do the work by exerting a force of attraction or repulsion on the other charged particles.
