Raison is a classic example of a destination hidden in plain sight. Around 12 kms from Kullu and 25 kms from Manali, Raison is located right on the Manali highway but is ignored by most of the travelers. It wont be wrong to say that it can be one of the MUST VISIT Offbeat Places in Himachal Pradesh.

In Raison we stayed at Yuthok Homestay.  A great blend of Kullu and Lahauli culture,  Yuthok is one of the finest examples of an authentic homestay.  Every person in family leaves no stone unturned to make your experience memorable. Food, stay, hospitality and the knowledge of Rajeshwar ji about Lahauli culture is tremendous. The meals at Yuthok Homestay were always freshly made (mostly with farm grown vegetables)
Among the traditional Lahauli dishes served at Yuthok Homestay were shunali(Lahauli pasta), tingmo, momos, thukpa, siddu and patrode (Kulluvi dishes). The host Rajeshwar Thakur  knows the Kullu valley in and out and will take you to some of the most beautiful and unknown places in Kullu valley.  Feeling at home among the Himalayas and in this heritage home, I decline the offer of a day trip to see the so called "Best Tourist Places of Manali". Instead, I spent the afternoon strolling along the picture-perfect villages of Raison, discovering byways beautifully lined with fruits trees. and admiring little cottages adorned with colorful creepers.

We even drove to Jana village which is on the other side of the beas river to attand the Fagli festival. With stunning landscapes, a panorama of snow capped Dhauladhars in front and houses that were 100 to 200 years old, Jana appears to be a village where time has stopped.  On the same day, the festival is also held in Malana Village on the other side of Chanderkhani Pass. The deity Mahamai originally belonged to Malana but came to Jana Village with the locals when Jeev Narayan, the main deity went to Kheer Ganga for a holy dip visiting Malana on the way back centuries ago. While returning, Mahamai also came with them and had been worshipped every year since then during Winter/ Spring season by the village people. This tradition has been there since many generations and is one of the most important religious celebrations

SO all in all it was a great start to our Manali trip where instead of Manali we actually explored some beautiful villages around. In the next episode we'll take you to another beautiful hidden village of Himachal. See you soon :)
