This video derives the equivalent resistance of resistors in series and parallel combinations.
Two or more resistors are said to be connected in a series combination if the same current passes through each of them when some potential difference is applied across the combination. The equivalent resistance of the combination is the algebraic sum of all the resistances in that series combination.
Two or more resistors are said to be connected in parallel combinations if the same potential difference is applied across each of them.

If R_s is the resistance equivalent to the series combination,
R_s   = R_1+ R_2  + R_3 + ....

If R_p is the resistance equivalent to the parallel combination,
1/R_p    =    1/R_1   +   1/R_2    +   1/R_3
