The "Rescue" lifeboat ride was made by RG Mitchell of Skegness for many years.  Originally released in 1968, this particular model probably dated from the late '60s or early '70s.  It had most likely been on Teignmouth Pier since then, but was sadly destroyed by the February 2014 storms, as far as I know. (I haven't been to the pier since then but understand that most of the old machines are gone).   While it was obviously well loved and weather worn (it was rather temperamental and wouldn't work upon insertion of my 20p coin - a kind man in the change booth got it working for me, hence the lack of coin insertion that you see in most of my ride videos), the boat had retained its original colour scheme as well as the "Rescue" signage and metal stars on its base.  A very sad loss for amusement arcade historians.

I am currently working on a website about coin operated rides, particularly those made (or at least commonly distributed) in the UK during the 1950s-90s. Please visit http://www.coinoperatedrides.weebly.com! If anybody has old photos/video footage that they wouldn't mind sharing with me, please e-mail me at [email protected] or leave a comment below.  I would be eternally grateful. Thank you! :)
