Oakton College - Drawing Demo: Cross-Hatching vs. Cross-Contour-Cross-Hatching in Pen and Ink

Materials needed:

   Half a sheet of drawing paper, cut down to 18"x12"
   2H graphite pencil
   Vinyl eraser
   Fine-point pen filled with India ink
   Brush pen filled with India ink

Start by creating a very light contour drawing (2H pencil). Focus on getting the proportions right. Once you've completed the contours, carefully use cross-hatching in pen to create a range of values. Then erase the pencil. Regular cross-hatching with straight lines will do. The video also shows the more advanced method of cross-contour-cross-hatching.
