In this video, Gary covers the ins and outs of dedicated hardware for machine learning, neural networking and artificial intelligence in a smartphone, from Huawei's NPU and the Pixel Visual Core (Google's custom imaging chip in the Pixel 2), to the Apple A11 Bionic chipset in the iPhone X and the HiSilicon Kirin 970 in the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10.
But is all this dedicated hardware really necessary to take advantage of machine learning, or will hardware components like the NPU become outdated as machine learning progresses? What value does it provide right now?
