Organizational structure refers to the hierarchical framework that outlines how specific activities will be directed to achieve organizational goals.
Organizational structure in a company helps to define the position and function of every employee including their role, responsibility, and who they will report to.
There are two types of organizational structure
1. Formal Organizational Structure
2. Informal Organizational Structure

• Intentionally created for an organized approach
• Achieving organizational goals
• Defined job position of every employee
• Fixed authority
• Defined superior-subordinate relationship
• Defined chain of communication and command
Informal Organizational Structure
Informal Organizational Structure refers to the friendly and social group of employees who are assigned different job positions at the same time.
Informal Organizational Structure – Features
• Created unintentionally
• Achieving psychological satisfaction
• Flow of communication and command is not defined

Line and Staff Organization
Line and Staff Organization refers to the administrative organization where staff supervisors and specialists are appointed by including supportive activities to the line of command.

2. A modified version of the line organization
3. Specialization of work
4. Divided functional areas
5. Both line and staff authority flow at the same time
6. Command remains with line executive
