Coach Steve breaks down his thoughts on how to keep your players prepared when it comes to tournament travel teams. A lot of times, coaches and parents have a hard time preparing their players when they are staying at hotels for travel tournaments. We have experiences with all types of situations and we share that in this video.
It's challenging to keep your players focused, keep them out of the pool, eating the right thing and getting enough sleep on road trips. Remember, they are kids! They're going to remember the experience of travel tournaments more than the wins & losses. We don't want to be too strict with our teams but we have to put limitations on what they're doing before and in between games. Set some guidelines but don't be too strict. Set a time limit on how much time they can be in the pool and what time they need to be back in their rooms by.
As coaches, we have to educate the parents on proper nutrition and what to eat before and in between games. Eat a protein bar or some fruit instead of the cheeseburger and chicken fingers from the snack shack.
