Emme is the girl with a million dreams and joy in her heart.

Not many 8 year olds have spent as much time at hospitals as Emme has. Born with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), she has an inoperable tumour in her brain stem, multiple spinal tumours and another potentially dangerous tumour in her right arm.

Despite this, she’s smiling and happy, and wants to share her story to help raise awareness of NF.

NF1 is a genetic condition that causes tumours to form on nerves in the body, including the brain and spine. Progressive and unpredictable, almost half of all cases arise in families with no history of the condition.

With few treatment options and no cure, those diagnosed spent much of their lives "watching and waiting", often feeling like they're alone on their journey. Zoe, Emme and her family have shared their experience in the hope of improving understanding of the burden a condition like NF can have, but also what is gained.
