The Jaguar F-Type that debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show is a sports car that was born as the heir to the famous E-Type, which itself ceased production in 1975. There was already a coupé & convertible XK series in the Jaguar line-up, but while the XK is a high performance grand tourer in line with the XJS, the F-type is a pure high performance sports car. Initially the car started out as a convertible with an electric soft top and its styling and performance garnered high praise. One year later an elegant coupé model that was almost identical to the C-X16, the concept car of the F-type, was shown almost simultaneously at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show. The F-Type R Coupé was the high performance model in the line-up. The 'R' designation indicates that this has the most powerful engine[1], the tightest suspension and the sportiest exterior and interior of the series. This, of course, applies to the R Coupé, where the high performance 488 BHP 5 litre supercharged V8 engine of the most powerful convertible was tuned to 542 BHP. This gave the car a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h, at which point the speed limiter cuts in. Its electronic controls, such as the adaptive suspension and torque vectoring differential, have also been tuned to a sportier taste.
