Rodriguez - Crucify Your Mind (with lyrics).
Despite the fact that the majority of the population met Sixto Rodriguez through the documentary Searching for Sugar Man (2012), his career started in the 1970s and was quite successful in countries like South Africa, where he was one more element of their social revolution. For many, a luck of Bob Dylan with latin origins, for others a poet who did not have the success he deserved until 40 years later.
Sixto Rodriguez's Crucify Your Mind is part of his first album, Cold Fact (1970). An album that we can also find tracks as I Wonder, This Is Not a Song, It's an Outburst - or, the Establishment Blues or the one that ended up giving the singer-songwriter his nickname.
In this video, I wanted to mix Sixto Rodriguez's music with the images of Ingmar Bergman's film Summer with Monika (1953). Pay homage to them. The conjunction of both elements came to my mind as soon as I heard Crucify Your Mind completely the first time. It was an immediate connection of plot and lyrics.
In my case, it wasn't thanks to the Malik Bendjelloul documentary that I discovered this great artist, but thanks to the soundtrack of the French film Les petits mouchoirs (2010), by Guillaume Canet. Anyway, the truth is that Rodriguez crucify my mind too.
