In Neurosurgical practice, we come
In Neurosurgical practice, we come across with lot of patients who are presented with a weakness of right hand and right leg, this is mainly because of the problem which arises in the left side of the brain, because right side of the brain controls the left side of the brain.
That's why, we've to look at the problem in the left side of the brain. The causes which are responsible for these type of weaknesses are
(i) Stroke
(ii) Tumor
(iii) Infectious disorders like Tuberculosis, Cysticercosis
(iv) Multiple Sclerosis
The acute causes mainly it's stroke, in that, there is acute vascular compromise in that part of the brain, it may be because of the clot which can block the circulation or reduced diameter of the blood vessels. i.e mainly seen in hypertensive, diabetes.
The tumor in the left side of the brain may lead to acute weakness in the right side of the body, both upper and lower limbs.
Multiple sclerosis, which are also present sometimes seizure or without seizure, that may lead to weakness in the opposite side of the body. Investigations include CT Scan of Brain, MRI of Brain, if required Angiography of brain blood vessels. Depending on the underlying pathology, we have to treat the condition.
