Struggle to dock single engine trawler, wind, current, kayaks

Experimenting with different ways to approach the dock.  I've had the best luck moving down wind and with the current...  The opposite of what everyone advises, but it's working.   Open to all suggestions, except spending 20k on bow and stern thrusters.  Enjoying the dance with a single engine, no steering in reverse 17,000 pond sail.
