Anna Nolan was just two years of age when she was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, the disease had a disruptive influence on her life, leading to her having both hips replaced when she was 22.

Although Anna always knew that she wanted to have children, she didn't know if she could. She also realised that this was something that she needed to talk to her doctor about. The key message she learned from the healthcare professionals was that her disease had to be under control to help ensure the best possible outcome.

In this powerful video, Anna tells of her journey through pregnancy, the challenges she faced, and the birth of her son, Josiah. Amidst the joy - and challenges - of being a new parent, which she shared with her husband, Jonathan, Anna's arthritis returned with force.

Now, Anna needed to reach out for help again, help this time which was necessary to live not just her own life, but to care for little Josiah.

She sums up her advice to anyone with arthritis who is thinking of having a family as 'Be prepared - and don't be afraid to ask for help.'
