In this video, I show you how to blend two images in Inkscape. Inkscape is a free vector graphics editor but you can still use it to combine bitmap images such as photos. In this simple tutorial, I show you how to smoothly blend two photos to create one image.
In the first example, I merge two skyline photos together using a mask to create a smooth transition between the images...
and in the second example, I demonstrate how to blend two images using a clipping mask and feathering to soften the edges. I use blend modes to better match the two images - in this case, a car and an image of a desert road. I create a shadow for the car by drawing a path and adjusting it’s blur and opacity.
Inkscape is not the best software for working with bitmap images, but with it’s broad range of features and functions it still does a good job. This is great if you want to combine bitmap images with vector graphics but only want to learn to use one software package.
