John Tay - [Alternate] S&K Miniboss (YM2612 + SN76489)

I am taking the Sonic Forces Egg Dragoon Mk. II theme and implementing it into every boss theme (excluding more climactic moments of the game, in which it has 1 boss and 1 zone in particular, if you know what I mean), the main ones you usually hear in the game itself, minor and major bosses.

This one was a bit challenging as I didn't really know how to write on it any further than the intro in which has an obvious Sonic 3 feel to it. I felt like I should do things a little differently for the concluding phrases, but didn't know where to take inspiration from. I ultimately chose Knuckles' Chaotix's style since I had no better ideas to pull from.

At first writing the section I felt real iffy about it, and sparingly used some of Chaotix's samples here. I initially went full on Chaotix style since I have the  raw PCM samples on me, but it didn't work out in my favor since they weren't punchy enough compared to the intro section I mentioned. I then kept on writing and decided to do a fusion of Sonic 3 and Knuckles' Chaotix instrumentation because they weren't too far from each other if I used them right. The final result came out okay.

After extra time thinking about it, I found it pretty cool how the song could work in both the minibosses' favor and also Sonic's (or whoever you're playing as). My nitpick with the original miniboss theme was that while it is fantastic, I felt as if it was a bit too tense knowing the difficulty of the bosses (which probably explains the short loop as well, in which I also have a nitpick for).

I took that idea and tried expressing it through trying to sell the fact that they are a bit silly, yet intimidating upon first glance. I mean, I'd be freakin' pissing myself facing a giant capsule with big swinging spikes as offense, but really the solution to beating it is so simple that even a 4 y/o could figure it out, and giving the player confidence in the bottom half of the song with the style transition; or possibly make the boss more intimidating and feel mocked and ashamed, for that matter.
