In this episode I provide the history of the Jaguar X-type, which was the first entry-level high volume compact luxury car for Jaguar which it was first released for sale in 2001.  The X-type was the second Jaguar produced as part of the Premier Automotive Group, which comprised of 4 import brands that Ford had acquired beginning in 1999.  Following the initial success of the S-type, a larger and more expensive mid-size sedan, the X-type was to be a volume leader for Jaguar, and Ford had hopes of 100,000 sold per year.  However its roots as a Ford Mondeo took over much of the press, ultimately hurting the car's image , even though less than 20% of the car was based on Ford parts and design.  Despite adding an estate model by 2004, the X-type slowly faced to the end of its run in 2009, soon after Ford had to give up all of its former import brands to save itself from bankruptcy.
