People who were affected by a record-setting flood in Arlington on Tuesday have started assessing the damage and cleaning up.

The Stillaguamish River flowed over its banks for around 24 hours starting Monday night, leaving some homes, businesses, and parks covered in water.

KOMO News meteorologist Kristin Clark reported some areas in the mountains of Snohomish County received nearly 9" of rain since Sunday.

The worst of the flooding is over, and now the community will work to pick up the pieces.

2:10 Standing outside Silvana Meats, Kevin Faulkner raises his arms about what he terms a "rite of passage."

Once again, this town surrounded on all sides by the Stillaguamish River and it’s connected watershed was inundated. At one point on Tuesday, the town of several dozen people was cut off from the rest of the world and only accessible by boat.

Yet Faulkner, who has worked at or owned the business for nearly two decades said the river didn’t cause damage. Drivers did.

All the businesses planned on being back open on Thursday.

“(It is) something that just happens and you deal with it and move on,” said Faulkner.

3:46 KOMO News took a drive around the Snoqualmie Valley on Wednesday to look at flooding from the Snoqualmie River.

Northwest of Carnation, near Snoqualmie Valley Road, KOMO News spotted farm fields that were flooded from the river, the amount of rain that fell, or both.

There were several road closures still in the area.

King County officials said this water will now start to recede. And those here will get ready for the next time.

5:25 Mt. Vernon is an area where the swollen Skagit River receded Wednesday, but officials are still preparing for the next big weather event. Officials said recent infrastructure improvements are a necessary resource for flood prevention.

Geology students and their teacher from Northwest Indian College took a field trip to check out the Mt. Vernon flood wall on Wednesday. KOMO News first reported on the addition in late 2021.

KOMO News crews saw at least one driver who even tried driving through but ultimately realized the water was too deep and had to make a U-turn.
