On 22 June 1940, Hitler went to The Glade of the Armistice at Compiègne to accept the French surrender, doing so in the railway carriage used to accept the German surrender in 1918. He then ordered the carriage taken to Germany and the Armistice site destroyed. Find out why and what happened to the famous railway carriage.
