American Woodcock ecology and management in the Northeast, USA: Recent advances from Rhode Island, New York, and beyond
Ever wonder about Timberdoodles? Woodland Hermits? Bogsuckers? Mudsnipe? Labrador Twisters? These names, of course, all relate to the American woodcock; a common, yet secretive, species of upland shorebird found throughout the eastern USA. During the last decade, much research and management has been conducted in the Northeast to better understand woodcock ecology and to help conserve declining woodcock populations. Join Dr. Roger J. Masse for an overview of woodcock ecology and management, and he will outline studies he has been involved with relating to behavior, management, and migration ecology of these peculiar birds. He also will discuss recent (and future) woodcock projects conducted by his students at SUNY Cobleskill. Co-sponsored with the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society. This program was recorded February 23, 2022.
