Jon Hare & Richard Joseph's infamous "War has never been so much fun" intro song to Cannon Fodder on the Amiga. Part of my classic game video music playlist Classic video game music

Cannon Fodder is a tactical shoot-em-up developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive in 1993. The game was subsequently ported to a variety of other platforms.

Like it's contemporary Syndicate (also released in 1993), the action is based around directing a squad of up to five squaddies and is entirely mouse-controlled. The squaddies can also enter and control turrets, tanks, helicopters, and other vehicles. Each mission requires a combination of careful planning, quick-thinking, and fast reactions, especially on the later levels.

Cannon Fodder's sardonic theme song, use of the poppy, and OTT cartoon violence famously wound up both the Royal British Legion and some of the British tabloids, who saw the game as a glorification of war and violence and seemed to completely ignore the fact the game is drenched in irony and sends out a very clear anti-war message. They even attempted to orchestrate a boycott, which of course probably helped sales more than harmed them.
