Lin Dan (born 14 October 1983)[1] is a former Chinese professional badminton player. He is a two-time Olympic champion, five-time World champion, as well as a six-time All England champion.

Widely regarded as the greatest badminton player of all time,[3][4][5] by the age of 28 Lin had completed the "Super Grand Slam", having won all nine major titles in the badminton world: Olympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, Thomas Cup, Sudirman Cup, Super Series Masters Finals, All England Open, Asian Games, and Asian Championships, becoming the first and only player to achieve this feat.[6][7] He also became the first men's singles player to retain the Olympic gold medal by winning in 2008 and defending his title in 2012.[8] Winning the Malaysian Open in 2017 marked Lin's success in having won every major title in the badminton world.[9]

In 2004, he was dubbed "Super Dan" by opponent Peter Gade after winning the All England Open final, and the nickname has since been widely used by his fans as well as the media to refer to him, in recognition of his achievements.[10][11]

Family
He and his wife Xie Xingfang had their first child "Xiao Yu" (Little feather) on 5 November 2016.[194]

Awards
Lin won the Eddie Choong Player of the Year award for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007.[195] He also secured the BWF Best Male Player of the Year in 2008.[196] Lin was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.[197] On 16 January 2011, he was voted as the 2010 best male athlete in CCTV Sports Personality of the Year for his clean sweep in major badminton titles.[198]

Social media
Weibo is the main social media platform which Lin is using to post and update his latest status as well as communicate with his fans or friends. Lin uses his name '林丹‘as the name of the account. In February 2018, the latest number of his followers in Weibo has achieved 3.7 million.[199] Additionally, Lin's fans group has set an exclusive account called '林丹全国球迷会‘ in Weibo to update Lin's latest status, post his pictures and results of matches.[200]

Viktor Axelsen (born 4 January 1994) is a Danish badminton player. He was the 2017 World Champion and the bronze medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics.[1] He won the 2010 World Junior Championships, beating Korea's Kang Ji-wook in the final to become the first ever European player to hold the title.[2] Axelsen was crowned European men's singles champion in 2016 and 2018.[3]

Early life
Axelsen was born in Odense, and at six years old, his father introduced him to badminton, playing the games at the Odense badminton club.[4][5] He lived with his father after his parents divorced, then lived alone in Copenhagen at the age of 17 and joined the national team.[6] His father Henrik Axelsen ran a small advertising agency for a number of years, but now works full time as a manager for his son, and his mother Gitte Lundager has a shop in central Odense with a hairdressing salon, cosmetics and fashion clothing. He was named as 2004 Player of the Year by Odense badminton club.[7]
