The Maqtal of Janab-e-Ali Asghar (peace be upon him) refers to the narrative surrounding the tragic death of Ali Asghar, the infant son of Imam Husayn ibn Ali, during the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
Ali Asghar, also known as Abdullah or Ali al-Asghar, was just an infant at the time of the battle. On the day of Ashura, when the forces of Imam Husayn were severely outnumbered and deprived of water by the army of Yazid, Imam Husayn appealed to the opposing army for water for his thirsty family, including the infants and children. In response, Yazid's forces cruelly denied them water.
In a heartbreaking scene, Imam Husayn, carrying the six-month-old Ali Asghar in his arms, went to the battlefield to plead for water one last time. Seeing the innocent child, Imam Husayn hoped that the soldiers would be moved by his plight. However, in a tragic turn of events, one of Yazid's soldiers, named Harmala ibn Kahil, shot an arrow towards Ali Asghar.
Imam Husayn, holding his dying son, presented him to the army, revealing the cruelty and injustice they had inflicted upon an innocent infant. The sight of the baby's lifeless body in Imam Husayn's arms moved many of the soldiers to tears, causing some to question their allegiance to Yazid.
The death of Ali Asghar is a poignant and heart-wrenching moment in the tragedy of Karbala, symbolizing the innocence and vulnerability of the Imam's family in the face of tyranny and oppression. It is commemorated with deep sorrow and mourning by Shia Muslims, particularly during the rituals of Muharram and Ashura.
