In the face of global challenges like COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, there is increasing conversation around reimagining value chains in order to build resilience to these shocks. Beyond the potential for greater resilience, this can also set off a chain reaction, fundamentally shifting how we interact with our current global economic system. In this session, discover how innovators and entrepreneurs are localizing value chains to drive change across a number of impact goals—from building community wealth, to saving lives, to combating the climate crisis.

Bios
Dr. Amanda Kiessel is cofounder of Good Market, a curated community platform for social enterprises, cooperatives, responsible businesses, civic organizations, networks, and changemakers working to create a 21st-century economy that’s “good for people and good for the planet.” It currently includes more than 2,700 enterprises across 92 countries. Amanda spent the past 20 years in Asia working with local organizations on agroecology and sustainable food systems, organizational development, and social enterprise. She has a PhD in Environmental Studies, a Masters in Sustainable International Development, and a degree in Biology with a specialty in ecotoxicology.

Atti Worku is a leader and advocate with over 10 years of experience as a nonprofit CEO. Throughout her career, Atti experienced the biased and unjust challenges of raising philanthropic dollars in the U.S. for a community-centered African organization. As the AVFund’s Africa-based co-CEO, she is focused on supporting the growth of African visionaries and their innovative impact ideas.
Prior to joining the AVFund, Atti founded and led Seeds of Africa, a nonprofit developing the educational foundation for the next generation of Ethiopia’s leaders.

Marcio Halla is the Director of the Territorial Governance Facility, an initiative of Latin-American Indigenous Organizations and Forest Trends . Prior to joining Forest Trends, Marcio was implementing several sustainable development projects, working closely with traditional communities and indigenous peoples in the Atlantic Rainforest and Amazon region. He graduated from São Paulo State University (UNESP - Brazil) in Agronomy and has a master’s degree in Territorial Planning from Santiago de Compostela University (Spain).

Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli is an expert on agriculture and nutrition, entrepreneurship, social innovation, and youth development. She has over 25 years of international development experience and is the founder of LEAP Africa, Changing Narratives Africa and African Food Changemakers (www.afchub.org).
She is also the co-founder of Sahel Consulting Agriculture & Nutrition Ltd. and AACE Foods Processing & Distribution Ltd. Ndidi serves on the boards of the Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), AGRA, Nigerian Breweries Plc. (Heineken), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. India, the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum, the Bridgespan Group and the African Philanthropy Forum.
Ndidi holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.

Dr. Shashi Buluswar is a scientist and a serial social entrepreneur working on a range of areas including global health, energy access, water and food security. Most recently, he served as the founding CEO of Global Health Labs, a new nonprofit created by Bill Gates to develop technology breakthroughs in global health, in partnership with the Gates Foundation. Under his leadership, GHL grew to a team of 100+ scientists and engineers, and has developed a broad portfolio of technologies including advanced molecular diagnostics for TB and other infectious diseases, FDA-approved rapid tests for COVID-19, AI-enabled image analysis for cervical cancer and maternal health, and oxygen delivery systems. Before that, Shashi was the founding CEO of the Institute for Transformative Technologies, incubated at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab as a special initiative of the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy under the Obama administration.
