On 12th July 2024 Jen Blackwell BEM received an honarary degree for services to dance at the graduation ceremony at the Lowry, Salford Quays.

This is the video showcasing some of the dances by Jen and her dancing family ‪@DanceSyndromeUK‬ which was shown during the ceremony as part of Jen's acceptance speech.

The press release from ‪@salforduni‬ says,
Jen Blackwell, co-founder of the multi award winning dance charity DanceSyndrome has been awarded an Honorary Degree by the University of Salford.  She has been named a Doctor of Arts for her work inspiring both disabled and non disabled people to dance.

Jen has Down’s syndrome, and she set up DanceSyndrome in 2009 with the help of her family. Since then, thousands of lives have been transformed through her work, in which she aims not only to get the world dancing but also to showcase what is possible for people with disabilities.

Jen collected her Award in front of an audience at the Lowry Theatre at the packed  University of Salford ceremony today (Friday 12 July). In an emotional acceptance speech, she thanked the University for highlighting her work:

“Thank you for recognising what’s possible for anyone, even those of us with learning disabilities. Everyone, with the right support can Dream, Believe and Achieve,” said Jen.
