But when she was coming out of the house of one of her devotee who was chandal, both Lord Jagannath and Baladeva see her. This makes Balaram upset and orders Lord Jagannath to banish Lakshmi devi from Sri Mandir. Jagannath ji argues and tries to make His elder brother understand about the future consequences but Balaram remains firm in his decision.
