In this video, we take an in-depth look at the automatic movement of Swatch's line of SISTEM51 IRONY mechanical watches to discover how, with only 51 components, SISTEM51 still maintains precision timekeeping and a 90-hour power reserve.
Looking through the open caseback of SISTEM51 IRONY, you can see the oscillating weight, which moves with your wrist to create energy. The self-winding mechanism then releases the energy to charge the movement. The energy is channeled to the escapement, which gives the impulse to the gear train, moving the seconds hand. The gear train then uses this impulse to power its gearing and maintain accurate time. Lastly, the stem module manages the time and date settings. The internal mechanism of a SISTEM51 IRONY is fully self-winding and battery-free.
