Welcome to my FSX Tutorial " How to do an ILS approach and landing in a Boeing 747" on FSX Steam edition. In this video, I give a very detailed explanation of how to perform an ILS landing in a Boeing 747. If you're unsure, ILS means Instrument Landing System and it is a form of auto pilot used to landing in bad weather. If your aircraft is equipped it can guide your aircraft to the runway, as well as along the glide slope.  Some of you may refer to this as auto landing. I hope that this video helps anyone who is struggling with how to fly an ILS approach or help you if you are wondering how it works. Please follow written instructions below.

Step 1:

Find your ILS Frequency by click on an airport in the "maps" page. Once you click on the airport look for a runway that has an ILS frequency and copy it down on a piece of paper.

Step 2:

Open your radio stack from the view menu at the top of your window. In the NAV 1 Standby block put in your ILS Frequency.

Step 3:

Line your aircraft up with the runway as if you were going to be landing yourself. Make sure you are about 2500 ft above the runway and a few miles away. In your aircraft's main panel, click the approach hold button as well as turn on your auto pilot button.

Step 4:

As the aircraft brings itself toward the runway, ensure you maintain a safe speed above your stall speed and when you feel comfortable with the approach and you have the runway in sight, turn off your auto pilot and complete the landing.

You have just completed an ILS landing. It is pretty much the same in every aircraft, the buttons are just different.
