ABOUT: In this video we’re taking a look at Coinbase, one of the largest fully regulated cryptocurrency exchanges. You can buy and sell over 20 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC). The user experience is pretty smooth on both the mobile app and website, and most things you need to do are very intuitive. The buying process is extremely quick as well as if you transfer it out to another service like Celsius or BlockFi. They take all sorts of payments like bank transfers, credit cards, and debit cards. Fees are a little complicated but pretty fair compared to other exchanges.

Coinbase also has a separate partner app called Coinbase Wallet which lets you manage your own wallets and gives you access to decentralized apps
These are extremely powerful that opens a lot of doors, but its more of an advanced move so if you’re just getting into crypto don’t worry about this. It could be its own separate video!
All you need to know is that the Coinbase exchange gives you seamless access to the Coinbase Wallet, which lets you dive deeper into the crypto world if you want
CONSIDERATIONS
Cryptocurrency in general is still relatively unstable, like Bitcoin (BTC) almost tripling from $13,000 to $36,000 in the last 2 months. It could easily do the opposite so be careful!
Digital currency is insured but not for the individual accounts. I highly recommend transferring your coins ASAP to a cryptocurrency interest account like Celsius or BlockFi, since it will be safer, and you will earn interest on those coins passively. The USD Wallet is FDIC insured up to $250k, which is pretty unique to crypto exchanges. This is basically just for wire transfers.
These aren’t your wallets so Coinbase can freeze accounts if necessary, they have done this before. This is another reason to transfer your crypto immediately to Celsius or BlockFi, or even a cold wallet you control. Your funds will be a lot more accessible
Coinbase’s customer support apparently is pretty bad, with slow response times and lack of resolutions. A lot of these seem to be getting resolved but it’s still not a great reflection on the company. I haven’t had a problem with them since I’m not a frequent crypto trader but obviously a lot of other people have.
THE VERDICT
There are 4 cases where you might want to use Coinbase. First is if you’re totally new to cryptocurrency and want to get a foot in the door, or just want an easy to use interface. It’s perfect an occasional crypto buyer like me.
Second is if you want to be able to transfer your crypto out immediately instead of the 3-4 days it usually takes. You could transfer to a cryptocurrency interest account like Celsius or BlockFi, or to a friend’s cold wallet.
Third is if you’re looking for a specific cryptocurrency only they offer. Fourth is if you want to diversify your transactions across multiple exchanges.
My honest opinion about Coinbase is that it is a quick easy way to buy and sell crypto and is my primary way to do it. Just be aware of the issues with frozen accounts I mentioned earlier and cryptocurrency as a whole.
