@1healingjourney Mother Teresa, born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun and the founder of the Missionaries of Charity1. She was born on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire and is now North Macedonia. She moved to Ireland at the age of 18 and later to India, where she lived most of her life1. She dedicated her life to serving the poor and sick, and founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. The congregation grew to have over 4,500 nuns across 133 countries as of 2012. The congregation manages homes for people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and tuberculosis. The congregation also runs soup kitchens, dispensaries, mobile clinics, children’s and family counselling , as well as orphanages and schools.
Mother Teresa received several honor's for her charitable work, including the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize in 1962 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was canonized by the Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta on September 4, 2016.
